Placement!

Recently, I have managed to obtain a work placement at a PR consultancy and this has been really fantastic! It is with Green Communications in Wakefield, which consists of a relatively small group of people but is an extremely good company.

I have to admit, I was not really sure what would be expected of me on my first day of a placement, which incedently will only be one day a week. Would I be the "tea girl" or would I be involved in any PR work? Would I be able to give opinions or would I even get to see any client work? Luckily for me, Green were more than helpful and generous in the variety of tasks they set me. I did get to be involved and, throught research, I got to learn a great deal about a junior PR practitioner's role. I sent most of the morning looking for statistics and information as well as getting in contact with the national newspapers. I also got the oppertunityto do a draft for a press release, which was so useful for me to get to grips with what I was writing.

I truely enjoyed the experience and am desperatley excited to go back tomorrow! By spending time in a consultancy, I am even more sure that this is the path I want to follow.

I have, also, managed to get in touch with another company about a short term placement in January so that I can get another perpective of the world of PR. I am very excited about this, as it is a large company so I will be able to see two very different atmospheres I hope!! I think the more experience I can gain the better and, as I said, I am enjoying it so much.

Well done! You're right: Green Communications may be relatively small, but they're a very well regarded consultancy.

Work experience there should be good for your development, and great for your CV.
